Electric Bills (SCE Updates) - No Surprise, Rates have gone up!
What are the new Rates?
SCE Rates, So research shows the following in 2022 SCE was authorized at 17% rate increase and then on June 1st they began another 7.84% increase this year. They also changed the peak demand times from 5-8pm for most of its customers which is 3 times the normal kW cost plus a special tariff rate. Some owners that have less of a demand changed their peak times to 4-9pm (We would have to go through each bill to understand who has what peak time). There is also an increased delivery charge this year and next year their proposed increase is 23% to the commission.
Why is this happening?
The commission says the following was the reasons for the increases The primary drivers of the June 1st rate increase are: o ERRA Forecast Decision (D.)23-04-012 ($459 million): Significantly higher wholesale power and natural gas prices in December 2022 – 115% higher than forecast – drove this increase. Approximately $3.62 (or 3.2%) of SCE’s Residential CARE customers’ bill impact is attributed to the 2023 ERRA increase with an equivalent impact of $5.32 (or 3%) to SCE’s Non-CARE Residential customers’ bill. o Wildfire Expense Memorandum Account (WEMA) 2 Decision (D.) 23-05-033 ($214 million): The Commission authorized SCE to recover costs associated with the purchase of wildfire liability insurance recorded in WEMA from July 1, 2020.
What are we doing about it?
- PointCentral Set Temp - We've changed the set to 76 upon arrival with ability to lower to 74. This will save for those hours between when the Air Conditioning is turned on in preparation of an arrival the morning of arrival to when the Guest actually arrives.
- Pool Pump Audits - This is by far the largest culprit of Power usage we see. We will check but please coordinate with your pool vendor to ensure they aren’t running on max RPMs (3500-3600) all day. We’ve found this in a couple of instances and it’s really not necessary just makes the pool guys job easier but costs you hundreds per month in electricity! We suggest 12 hours per day at 2600 RPMs. This will dramatically reduce your electrical usage!
